How readable is your website?
Did you know that on average only 22% of text on any given web page is actually read? Yep, that’s right, quite possibly* you’ve spent hours slaving over the content on your fantastic new website, only for your potential customers to glaze over and ignore most of it!
Why is this? Well the are a number of reasons, it could be because your design is poor: users could find it difficult to read; or you have far too much text, with not enough headings and titles to signpost site visitors towards relevant content. Alternatively it could be because your content is too technical or wordy, just because it makes sense to you, doesn’t mean it’ll make sense to your potential clients (for example, I may understand what “W3C XHTML compliance” means with regard to SEO, but would my clients?)
To help with this I’ve recently found a fantastic tool to help web authors text the readability of content on their site, it’s called Read-Able and best of all it’s free! So go have a look, I’d love to hear what you think of it, have you found it useful? If it shows your content is too difficult, I have some great copywriters who could help you get back on track!
until next time..
